LCSC update on Corona Virus (Covid-19)

Published 11:35 on 19 Mar 2020

In light of the UK Governments recent statements and the developing situation around Corona Virus (COVID-19), the club, in line with RYA recommendations, have taken the difficult decision to suspend all club activities until 30th April 2020.

What this means;

Dinghy Sailing: The club has currently suspended all weekend dinghy sailing activities. Should boat owners wish to take their own boats out sailing they can, they will need to arrange safety boat cover among themselves. RYA advice is that limited sailing is possible where social distancing can be maintained.

Training: Currently all training, both RYA and non-RYA skills courses have been postponed until at least the end of April. Equinox Sailing is set up to run online RYA courses - so this is potentially a great opportunity for you all to complete or refresh your Day Skipper Theory courses and get a VHF/SRC certificate. If you want to know more about this email Berenice.

Offshore Sailing: All offshore trips have been suspended until the end of April. Unfortunately, this means that the Cold Toddy will not go ahead next weekend. We are working with the charter company to reschedule this to a date later in the year. ... so it will probably be the not quite so Cold Toddy.

Offshore Racing: All racing events with the exception of the upcoming Sunsail weekend #2 have been suspended until the end of April. Sunsail events are still happening but it's possible this may change as the situation develops.

Social Activities: All LCSC social activities and Tuesday evening gatherings will be suspended until the end of April.

Club House: Linden House will shortly be issuing their own statement but will be closing for all social activities until the end of April; to be revised.

Overall, the situation is obviously very fluid and we intend to review the situation at the next MANCOM meeting in early April; potentially earlier if the situation changes.

In the interim, we are investigating alternative online events, talks, and training to engage with. If you would like to put together a video talk on a pet subject please get in touch. We are also looking at the projects that we can work on over the next couple of months that will put us in a stronger position once life gets back to normality.

I'm sure you will appreciate that these decisions have not been made lightly. Our overall aim must be to look after the health and well being of our members and the communities they live in.

Any questions about this email please feel free to get in touch via email.

Vice Commodore and RYA Training Principal
