Overview
Training & Skills Development
LCSC is an RYA Recognised Training Centre. Through the club there is access to a programme of yacht theory and practical courses, as well as dinghy training such as RYA Level 1 and 2 courses, plus powerboat and safety boat courses.
Outside RYA Accredited Courses, LCSC also organises a number of crew skills development courses and weekends throughout the year. Run at minimal cost, these tackle all round sailing skills fitting in around your accredited RYA training such as Competent Crew and Day Skipper cert. Events such as these are intended to help develop and become better sailors. Moving on to skippering, the club also provides, in addition to practical courses, a "Skipper Development" training programme, as well as key skills training weekends such as "Sailing with Spinnakers" or "Pontoon Bashing". Look at the sections on Dinghy Skills Development or Yacht Skills Development opportunities for more details.
The benefit of signing up for courses through LCSC and becoming a member is the club structure which provides all year round mentoring and follow-on sailing opportunities, right from the first steps to skippering in the most demanding conditions.
See our Skills Progression section, and look at the flowchart to better understand how you can develop from novice to racing helm or competent crew, through skipper development to fully qualified Yachtmaster.
Shorebased courses are held at Linden House, our club house, in Hammersmith W6 9TA and practical offshore courses are run out of Hamble.
