RYA Day Skipper Theory
Accredited RYA Theory Course offering a comprehensive introduction to sail cruising for inexperienced skippers.
This course equips you with enough knowledge to navigate around familiar waters by day. A basic knowledge of lights is also included to introduce you to night cruising.
LCSC Membership Offer - there is a waiver of the £50 joining fee (annual fee is payable at time of joining) if you apply to be a member of LCSC when signing up for the course.
Course Title: RYA Day Skipper Theory
Course Cost: approx £390 non members; approx £340 members. This included the RYA Course pack & materials. The Portland Plotter and Dividers to be purchased in addition)
Core hours are from 19:00 - 22:00 (for evening classes) except for the first evening where registration will start from 18:00pm. Those unable to make an earlier slot can complete registration post 22:00.
On most evenings the instructors will be in from 18:00 for anyone needing catch up hours or for some additional review.
The weekend timing will be approx. 9:30 5pm TBA

Course Description: Course topics include: the basics of seamanship the essentials of coastal navigation and pilotage chart work electronic charts position fixing plotting a course to steer weather forecasting and meteorology tides collision regulations construction, parts and equipment of a cruising boat emergency and safety procedures including distress calls,use of flares, safety harnesses, life jackets and life rafts
What's Included: RYA Northern Hemisphere Student Packs includes assessment papers, course notes, basic plotter, practice charts. Training Almanac. Certificate of completion. The Portland plotter and dividers are an additional cost if required.
