The Tideway Derby
Published 12:10 on 24 Jun 2026
What a fantastic day on the water on Saturday 20 June, as nine Corinthian members joined around sixty other dinghy sailors for a memorable sail down to Westminster. The event revived the mass-participation Tideway race that was once a regular fixture on the London sailing calendar more than 40 years ago.
Congratulations to Val for winning the Fast Handicap Class, and also to Martin, Carol, Julian, Corene, Jeremy, Paola, Pip and Alistair for completing three and a half hours of tacking, gybing and hiking an exhausting but hugely rewarding achievement!

A look through our archives shows that LCSC has a long history of participation in the Tideway Derby, making it particularly special to see the event return. Fingers crossed that this becomes an annual fixture once again!

As always, a huge thank you to all the organisers and safety boat crews whose hard work made the event possible and ensured everyone could take part safely.
