Laying Up Supper 2024

For this year's Laying Up Supper we took a trip to the wild west. Huge thanks to Derrick for supporting us with creating a short Sergio Leone inspired film to start off the night!

We were delighted to present the Badger Trophy, established in honour of our dearly-missed President, Beverley Beech, to Neil Cox. Neil is a long-term member of the Offshore Committee , and as well as organising and volunteering as a skipper on many trips, has also spent a lot of time supporting skipper development. He also recently became a safety boat driver on the river, providing support for our dinghy sailing sessions. In addition, earlier this year, Neil very kindly stepped in to oversee a Mile-builder trip at the last minute, allowing our developing skippers to have this valuable training opportunity that otherwise would have been cancelled.

We also celebrated the fantastic volunteering efforts of Jonathan Stirling, who has done an enormous amount of work to improve our laser fleet this year, and John Ayre and Oscar Dawes, who have been championing our new dinghy sailors, and providing them with opportunities to build their skills on the water.

A special award was presented to Peter Ryan, who over the past few years has taken part on a number of epic trips, often with members crewing, including sailing round Great Britain, and crossing the Atlantic for a trip to the Caribbbean and back earlier this year.

Well done to all of our very worthy winners who were recognised for either their sailing prowess or for their commitment to volunteering for the club.
