Nineteen boats entered for this year's Tideway championships, seven visitors and twelve from LCSC. A light south westerly of between 4 to 7 mph and a strong spring tide discouraged some potential entrants but the fleet got away for the first race with only a minor postponement. Race Officer Liz St Clair had set a pin end mark so as not to give advantage to home sailors of the line bias and the fleet got away with no OCS's. Our most venerable sailor showed that all those years of experience won't stop being swept and caught on the pontoon – but Maverick survived unscathed.

The race was shortened to a single lap during which the Ranelagh rescue boat was called to action to rescue a dog in serious danger of drowning with its collar caught in a branch rapidly disappearing under the rising waters. Four boats were timed out before the start of the second race. Again an almost clean start for the fleet for the second race.

The wind had veered to westerly and buoy # 5 proved a real challenge for many. The two River X's got clean away and enjoyed their own private race. It was good to see Douglas Maxwell's and Matt Wright sailing the Merlin Rocket Midnight Flight so well during race 1. LCSC's chief instructor of dinghies after enjoying a good race 1 spoiled the impression by trying to take a flyer up the wrong side of the Eyot in race 2.Tom Stolper, Brian Clarke, Alan Munro-Faure and Stephanie Tollemache all distinguished themselves for the visitors.

Racing was followed by Mark Pearson giving the prizes, very tasty catering and free beer courtesy of Fullers. A great event and very friendly atmosphere between all and now for Southbank SC on 26th June and Ranelagh SC in October.

Results:

West London Hospital Trophy: Winner, Tom Stolper, 2nd Brian Clarke both Ranelagh, 3rd Phil Robbin LCSC

King Morgan Cup: Winner Tom Stolper Ranelagh, 2nd Phil Robbin LCSC

Edith Woods Trophy: Winner Phil Robbin LCSC, 2nd Alan Munro-Faure and Stephanie Tollemache Southbank.
