Yacht Cruising

Every year the London Corinthian Sailing Club organises a series of offshore cruises in the Solent and elsewhere in the UK and holidays Overseas. This is leisurely cruising, mostly suitable for complete beginners, even if you have never been on a boat before. The UK cruising season starts in mid-March and continues through to mid November whilst the overseas cruising holidays can run all year round.

Most events are based on bareboat charters but in the Solent some members join in with their own yachts and a few members on board. The cruises are generally skippered by qualified club members which keeps the costs of the events down, although if there are no suitably qualified club skippers we may use a professional skipper.

Solent Cruises

Solent trips generally start from the Hamble or another location easily accessible from London making them an extremely good option for a weekend away sailing. These cruises can be very popular and you may need to sign up early to ensure a place. See Upcoming Yacht Events for our next Solent trips.

A lot of our Solent trips simply give members the opportunity to get together and sail around the Solent however many have a definite destination or purpose, be that Social or Skill Building.

Some of the more popular social trips include:

  • The Hot Toddy: usually held in the Autumn. 5-10 boats sail to Cowes and hold a Pontoon party with awards for the best Hot Toddy!

Other Themed Trips include:

  • New Member Weekends: An opportunity to meet other new members and try yacth sailing with the club. Anyone who has never been on a Yacht before will be given an introduction to the basics.

For most trips the crew will meet up on Friday evening at the marina and sleep on the boat. On the Saturday, there is a day's sailing to a location within easy reach, where the crew will spend the night, again on the boat. The boat will then return to its starting point on Sunday, allowing everyone to get home by the evening.

Some of the MIlebuilder weekends may go further afield and involve night sailing and taking a day's holiday.

The boat is normally chartered and is typically 36 to 40 foot, sleeping up to 8 people.

Overseas Trips

London Corinthians run a wide selection of cruises in the UK and overseas.

In 2019 we have planned trips to Scotland - Skye, Greece- Cyclades Turkey Fehtiye Bay, Ireland - Baltimore, and the British Virgin Islands". Please see calendar for more details.

The club's overseas cruises have become very popular over the years and this is not surprising when you see the fantastic places that we have visited - Italy's Amalfi coast, the Dutch Lakes, Canary Islands, Croatia, Montenegro, Sardinia, Sweden, Caribbean, Turkey, Greece, Canada and Thailand to name a few.

Each year the calendar includes some favourite holiday destinations but also some interesting or lesser visited locations.

We are always open to suggestions for new destinations and volunteers to organise trips! Spaces can go very quickly on these cruises so remember to book early.

Overseas events are organised on a charter only basis so members generally book their own flights although recommendations are made to enable shared transfers.
