Cowes puts on right royal show for Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebrations

Motoring classic yachts is often rather tedious but not so on this special day. The perfect conditions, a very jolly crew, including one ex naval officer, all dressed in Aeolus crew outfit, made it a unique experience.

Aeolus was in the vanguard of the sailing boats as we approach HMS Severn. Possibly the oldest boat in the parade! Unfortunately we did not see any other Old Gaffers amongst the 50 or so sailing yachts which followed the fleet of lifeboats and motorboats.

It was unexpectedly thrilling as we went past the warship with a cheer for the Princess Royal and the lines of top brass in their white caps on the decks. Anne's hearty wave back to us topped the day.
