Jurassic Coast - 4 Day Sail from Hamble Point to Weymouth
Jurassic Coast - 4 Day Sail from Hamble Point to Weymouth
Friday 27th May to Tuesday 31st May
Join us for a fabulous long weekend sailing along the stunning Jurassic coast to Weymouth!
The plan for this trip is subject to change, dependent on weather, tides and skippers. The rough plan is as follows.
Friday evening meet at Hamble
Saturday sail from Hamble to Poole
Sunday sail from Poole to Weymouth, via Chapman's Pool
Monday sail from Weymouth to Swanage, via Lulworth Cove
Tuesday sail from Swanage back to Hamble
More details are as follows:
Friday - the plan is to arrive at Hamble Point Marina or Port Hamble Marina (depending on where your boat is based) on the evening of Friday 27th May for a meal in a local pub.
Saturday we will set off early on Saturday morning to catch the tide, sailing west out of the Solent. It's a beautifully scenic route, passing Hurst Castle and the iconic Needles lighthouse, before leaving the Solent and cruising along the quintessentially English white cliffs of the Jurassic coast, before entering Poole Harbour - allegedly the largest inland harbour in Europe. Passing through the narrow entrance, we will pass Sandbanks - one of the UK's most desirable and expensive locations to live, and Brownsea Island - owned by National Trust which famously hosted Lord Baden Powell's inaugural Scout camp in 1907. Poole is a historic and fun place to go out - with plenty of lively restaurants and bars for us to choose from for a night out.
Sunday - On Sunday morning, we sail west from Poole, past the stunning chalk cliffs of Old Harry's Rocks, dropping anchor in Chapman's Pool for lunch, and eventually arriving at Weymouth - a gorgeous seaside town that has been favoured by English holidaymakers ever since the Victorians.
Monday - On Monday morning, we start our return journey east, stopping for lunch in the fascinating geographical formation that is Lulworth Cove with the possibility of a swim for our hardiest sailors!
There are various options for Monday night - we could anchor overnight in Swanage Bay and get a water taxi ashore for fish & chips. Other alternatives include dropping anchor overnight behind Brownsea Island in Poole Harbour, in Studland Bay or even Lulworth Cove. The sailing plans are provisional and are dependent on wind and tides etc.
COST: The price of this weekend is £325 per person which does not include food and drink, marina costs and fuel.
