Offshore Race Training and Development - Beginner / Intermediate

A refreshed offshore race training weekend for newer and developing racers with our professional racing coaches.

We'll practice improving racing tacks, gybes, spinnaker work, handling and racing trim whilst looking for better outcomes in boat speed and racing decisions. We'll cover boat controls on different points of sail for best speed, starts, working on boat speed, and making racing decisions in practice races/passages. You'll help the boat go faster and point better.

Newer sailors are welcome, and more experienced racers will have opportunities to take on more responsibility if desired.

Outline for the weekend (we may vary based on weather/tide/crew)

Saturday morning: manoeuvres refresh and boat handling basics

Saturday afternoon: Boat speed and trim on different points of sail (using all controls, cars, backstay etc.)

Saturday eve: Debrief as usual or practice navigation for Myth / St Malo

Sunday morning: manoeuvres if needed, otherwise rolling practice starts (sailing fast and slow, accelerating to line etc.)

Sunday late morning / afternoon: timed passages and small races

You will need to travel to Gosport, where the boats have been chartered for the weekend.

Please plan to arrive at the boat by Friday evening, 8th May.

COST: £350 for crew members (the costs do not include fuel, moorings & provisions which will be shared amongst the crew)

Note: Sometimes we crew with 8 on board, and sometimes with 9. The boat can only accommodate 8 to sleep, so one person will need to sleep ashore. If there are no immediate volunteers to do so, then lots are drawn and the cost is split between the crew.

A reminder that for all race training events, the security deposit liability will be £100 (not £200 as per race events)

Replacements are not guaranteed on any withdrawals two weeks leading up to the event. We will attempt to engage with the waitlist but last-minute changes are difficult to manage for all parties involved.
