J80's Keelboat Spinnaker Training & Racing
J80's Keelboat Spinnaker Training and Racing on Saturday 9th May
Places are limited, we aim to have 9 crews of four. There are 4 crew to a boat, made up of the helm, main trimmer and two crews to manage the jib and spinnaker.
We will practise some Spinnaker Training in the morning and go our racing in the afternoon.
J-80s are 4-man keelboats, and halfway between a dinghy and a yacht so this is a great chance for our dinghy and yacht sailors alike to participate in our sport together. The format will be 'sprints', which means getting in lots of short races and is usually great fun - everyone will certainly be busy! Royal Thames will be race officers and provide a briefing and RIB support.
Royal Thames Yacht Club have a fleet of J80s at Queen Mary where the event will take place. Queen Mary SC, is a safe stretch of inland water, half an hour's drive from LCSC.
We managed to keep the costs down and offer it at a very reasonable £85 per person.
If you haven't done it before and would like an idea of what to expect, take a look at this link with photos of the event (on a rather chilly day) a few years back:
