Helping with the running of the dinghy racing programme is an excellent way to broaden your sailing experience as well as making a valuable and valued contribution to the club. Without member support racing would not be possible. It is compulsory as part of terms of membership for each member to offer their time to fulfill these roles.
The Sailing Committee would be grateful if you would sign up for duties voluntarily (even if you are more of a Yacht sailor your help is still appreciated).
Roles that need filling for each race are:
· Race Officer (requires experience)
· Deputy Race Officer (requires no training/experience)
· Safety Boat Driver (requires training)
· Deputy Safety Boat Driver (requires no training/experience)
Duties require volunteers to arrive at least an hour before the race start time. If you have problems arriving on the day please contact the other duty officers scheduled on the same race. Member details can be found in the Member Directory, when you have logged in as a member.
If you cannot make your duty slot it is your responsibility to arrange a replacement.
From the Race Box and the Safety Boat you have the opportunity to see how races are lost and won. Some may even find zipping up and down the Thames in a motor boat as much fun as battling with the tide under sail. If you have no experience, sign up for a deputy role and you will be paired with someone with experience. If anyone feels they would benefit from training, we can organise training sessions for both Race Officers and Safety Boat drivers.
Please look out for emails about available duties from the duties secretary and possible training opportunities. If you have any questions about roles or process email firstname.lastname@example.org.
