Course content
(Non-RYA course)
This two weekend course covers the use and limitations of modern electronic aids
to navigation, including G.P.S. Chart plotters, "Yeoman" P.C. based navigation
and tidal programs. It includes hands on practice of electronic position fixing,
tide calculations, passage planning and simulated passage making. The course is
equally suited to both sail and powerboat users. With the increasing use of modern
electronic aids to navigation such as G.P.S. knowledge of how to use it safely
and correctly is essential. The course assumes prior completion of the RYA Day
Skipper course or the equivalent experience and is intended to be both enjoyable
and informative. No study in the student's own time will be required. There are
no assessments during or at the end of the course. No completion certificate is
issued to students who complete the course.
