Course leading to RYA Day Skipper Theory Certificate
This is a beginner's course, which assumes no prior experience and is intended
to be both enjoyable and informative. It introduces basic navigation, including
chartwork, position fixing, tides, buoyage, and passage planning as well as
the essential subjects of safety and meteorology. The course is equally suited
to both sail and powerboat users. With the increasing use of modern electronic
aids to navigation, an introduction to the safe use of G.P.S. is also included.
The course is essential preparation for the RYA Day Skipper Practical Course.
A small amount of study in the student's own time will be required. The student
is assessed by short practice exercises during the course and two final exercises
towards the end of the course. A course completion certificate is issued to
students who successfully complete the course.
