RORC Channel Race Report.

23 & 24 July 2005

Our Fastnet saga continues and we didnt have a boat for the RORC Channel race. And we still havent found a buyer for Arbitrator so we again switched our entry from Class Super Zero to Class 3. We downsized our crew to those of us who had done the least offshore sailing for some race experience of the slower kind, and set off on Saturday morning buoyed by the knowledge that at least the Sigma 38 class offered rather better medallion hopes than racing against the likes of Maximus (IRC rating 1.77) and Patches, a state of the art TP52. And there was the hope that, as with the Morgan Cup, the slower classes would be set an easier and shorter course, giving us a chance to finish ahead of the bigger boats both on elapsed time and on handicap.

Attached is RORC's race report. Even Peter's never won a RORC race overall as skipper before. Celebrations were somewhat muted as we had to go straight back out to sea (in the rain and into the teeth of a force 6, those who had indulged soon learning the error of their ways...) in our Fastnet boat to do the qualifying miles.

We will get to celebate next week when our Cowes Week crew and the Channel Race crew will be at the RORC cocktail party and prize giving at the Royal Yacht Squadron next Wednesday - we hope to see other Corinthians there too. We will also be having drinks on Arbitrator in the yacht haven on the Friday night of Cowes from 8pm to watch the fireworks; those of you who are in Cowes please do come along for what may yet be Arbi's last Cowes Week with us...
