LCSC Members Compete and Win at the City Sailing Championships

Nicola Baalham and Sally-Ann Scott, both new LCSC members and Bojangles crew, competed with fellow Deutsche Bank colleagues in the City Sailing Championships in Porquerolles Sept 9-11. Porquerolles is a small island just off the South of France. The fleet consisted of 16 JOD 37s, crewed by teams from around the City, including the returning winners from 2004 - UBS.

Racing began on the Friday, when some wind appeared eventually, with two windward leeward courses being completed. Despite protests over mark moving, Deutsche Bank White (Nicola's team) was flying the yellow kite. That night it seemed that both Deutsche crews were winning the party race, they certainly looked the most tired on the Saturday morning!

While waiting for the start on Saturday, most of the crews went for a swim. Deutsche Blue (Sally's team) even managed to get some water skiing going. Four races took place that day and though Deutsche White had to hand over the yellow kite to UBS for one race, at the end of the day they took overall first place!!

At the prize giving ceremony hosted by Steve Mitchell and Lisa McDonald, Nicola received a magnum of Mumm champagne and a silver wine coaster marking the winning effort. The committee also introduced a new award: The Mast Monkey - awarded to Sally for scooting up the rig when the kite would not drop. She similarly received champagne and a small silver travel clock.

A fantastic time was had by all that evening and on their return Nicola and Sally had the honour of being escorted through Heathrow in a buggy. Seems Sally had finished the celebrations by standing on a champagne glass, getting 8 stitches and hobbling on crutches. Don't think she'll be climbing the rigging anytime soon.

Sailing was the winner but the Champagne was a close second!
