Hamble Winter Series
The Hamble Winter Series is one of the most popular events in the club's sailing calendar and is a truly great way to improve your racing skills. Racing out of Hamble, racing takes place in the Solent and is racing 'round the cans'. Taking place over eight weekends in October/November the club enters various boats and is most suitable for our intermediate to advanced racers and those looking for race skippering development. During training weekends, Saturday nights are spent in Hamble, which is included in the event price.
Members should book each weekend separately, and specify their preference to be on A or B boats directly with the organiser. Discounts for half and full campaigns will be applied by the club administrator. Pre season training is free for members booking a half or full campaign, or available at extra cost for people booking single weekends.
HWS Full Campaign Details & Final Bookings
The full details of LCSC's HWS campaign, including information on theory and practical training sessions available, were presented at the club on 17th August.
Final Bookings are required by 24th August.
Members should also update their racing skills on the online skills matrix page.
A copy of the HWS campaign information slides are available here.
What Is The Scope For 2010?
For 2009 the club entered 1 boat in IRC with Sailing Logic, finishing 7th in IRC1. For 2010 entries for HWS will again be in the Reflex 38 fleet with Sailing Logic. The campaign scope will cover two entries, an 'A' and a 'B' boat, racing in IRC handicap. There are opportunities for both campaigns for joining in a crew boss role for skippering development with the support of club race skippers and the racing coaches.
'A' Boat - Club Skipper Neal Kelshaw
The A boat will be on Panther Logic, skippered by Neal Kelshaw and with a Sailing Logic coach. The campaign scope will be for a consistent squad, with priority to members booking a full or half campaign, the aims will be looking for crew expertise in fixed roles, and looking for a top 3 finish with the aims being boat results. This will include a free pre-season and mid season training session.
'B' Boat
The B boat will be looking for an opportunity for members to rotate roles and practice their skills in new roles, with the support of the coach. This includes navigation, helming and skipper development. The priority will be for early booking and the aim is for improvement in all the crew.
