YOUNG SAILORS AND THE JUBILEE REGATTA
Young sailors with big ambitions will find a fantastic opportunity in the
Jubilee Regatta.
The RYS is finding up to 12 places - principally on 12 metre yachts - and
the RYA is launching a nationwide publicity campaign to find talented young
people to take part in this international event.
The chosen 18 to 21 year olds will probably have a dinghy racing background
and they'll be given the opportunity to gain big boat experience during 2001
starting with the Warsash Spring series in March.
So by August when they're allocated boats they'll be valuable crew members.
Apart from the thrill of the Regatta itself, who knows where it might lead?
Some of these young sailors may even get the chance to take part in the next
UK challenge for the America's Cup.
Accommodation has been booked with the UKSA in West Cowes, and some of the
costs of this 'crew search' are being covered by the John Merricks Sailing
Trust.
Applications forms can be obtained from Kath O'Connell at the RYA.
