The Annual LCSC Treasure Hunt 30th July – 1st August 2004

To all LCSC Treasure Hunters: this year's theme is 'Nautical Tales from the Age of Sail'

Crews, skippers and boats:

Phil Eley will be allocating crews to skippers, booking and allocating boats to skippers then contacting skippers with details. Skippers will be informed of their crew and boats by 16th July. You should be contacted by your skipper week commencing 19th July.

There may be some 'last minute' vacancies. Please contact Phil Eley if you would like to be considered. philipj.eley@btinternet.com

About the Treasure Hunt 2004
For those who have not done this before, the Treasure Hunt involves teams (boats and their crews) in a search for the answers to cryptic clues about parts of the Solent and a few on land. This tends to result in crews sailing in confused patterns between Portsmouth, Hamble and Cowes, trying to second guess each other, before heading back to Cowes to exercise their Blue Peter skills in object-making, scavenging and verse writing for everyone's entertainment. The winner of the Treasure Hunt will receive the LCSC Treasure Chest full of treasure.

The Treasure Hunt itself is followed by a themed fancy dress drinks party, dinner and disco at the Island Sailing Club on Saturday Night. A prize is awarded for the best team fancy dress. Each boat is expected to have a carefully co-coordinated wardrobe based loosely on this year’s theme, which is Nautical Tales from the Age of Sail. Please note that marks will be awarded for frugality and creativity in the execution; hired costumes will result in keel hauling!

Skippers are asked to coordinate with the crews to decide their 'nautical tales in the age of sail' theme as soon as possible after 19 July and let Robyn Griffith-Jones know so that we have time to avoid any obvious duplications. (NB Robyn cannot answer queries about boats, crew allocation or skippers: please contact Phil Eley directly.) robyn@plancommunications.co.uk

This year, we are delighted to welcome students from the Ellen McArthur Trust as our guests for the fancy dress judging, which will take place during the drinks party. The club will be making a donation to the Ellen MacArthur Trust after the event.

Many thanks and we hope you enjoy the Treasure Hunt!
