Course content
This is an advanced course, which assumes prior completion of the RYA Day Skipper
course or the equivalent experience and is intended to be both enjoyable and informative.
It develops more advanced navigation, including chartwork, position fixing, tides,
buoyage, and offshore passage planning as well as the essential subjects of safety,
International Regulations for Preventing Collision at Sea and more advanced meteorology.
The course is equally suited to both sail and powerboat users. With the increasing
use of modern electronic aids to navigation, the use of G.P.S. is also included.
This course is essential preparation for the RYA Coastal Skipper Practical Course
or the Yachtmaster Examination
An amount of study in the student's own time will be required. The student is assessed by short practice exercises during the course and three final assessment exercises towards the end of the course. A course completion certificate is issued to students.
