Enterprise Open - Sun 24th April

Published 01:00 on 3 Apr 2016

London Corinthian Sailing Club hosted the 2016 Enterprise Open Meeting on Sunday 24th April.

Corinthians welcome visitors to Enterprise Open

On Sunday 24th April we welcomed visitors to compete in our annual Enterprise Open. With 5 visitor boats, coming from as far afield as Rugby, 9 from LCSC, intermittent sunshine and a force 3 wind, we were all set up for a great race.

An unusual NNE wind took us up river to Barnes to catch the breeze. As boats were launching from our brand spanking new pontoon, the wind started to fall away but the race got off to a good start. Everyone made it round the first two marks and disappeared from sight, up to Barnes; with no home advantage for LCSC as the visitors took to the Thames like fish to water.

With the wind continuing to drop and no blue sails in sight, Race Officer Phil Robin hatched a plan to finish the race on the water up at number 8. The safety boat turned into a committee boat and Ann Jackson and Alan Skeens crossed the line first with flags waving and improvised honking to signal the end of the first race.

Improvisation continued with Race 2 starting in Barnes with a loop down river and back, finishing at the committee boat at number 5.The visitors found sailing against the tide more challenging this time round and it was great to watch the winner of the first race get the hang of the vagaries of the bends and the tides to skillfully work their way up the fleet. There was a very tightly fought battle for the line with Val Nedialkov and Cara Glover just getting pipped at the post by Martin Davies and R. Bradley with Gareth Llewelyn and Kate Alexander coming an admirable 3rd.

Final results overall went to the visitors from Burghfield SC with Val Nedyalkov and Cara Glover in second place.
